Come on, Baby: Let’s conquer the end of the world!

Two times eleven square meters. This is the size of the hut, built of 200 Euro pallets, 1500 screws and about 900 recycled nails. This is the home of Mila and Veit Streblin along with their four children ranging in age of 2 up to 8 years. They built the hut with their own hands on a savaged plot between plantations of tropical fruits on El Hierro, the smallest of the Spanish Canary islands.

They simply had enough of their life in an ordinary apartment in Berlin Kreuzberg and instead dreamed of a life in real harmony with nature. Truly independent they wanted to be, to support themselves from their own vegetable garden. Therefore they were willing to leave their old life behind and start from scratch where the sun almost always shines.

I went to visit my friends in their new surrounding last winter and immediately fell in love with the self sustainable El Hierro and especially this wonderful self sustainable family.
